In the week of June 22, 2020 Apple kicked off its annual developers' conference, WWDC 2020, at the Steve Jobs Theater on the company's Apple Park campus. Unlike the prior years, this year's WWDC was without a live audience. During the event, major technologies and offerings were unveiled, including Apple Silicon, iOS 14, iPadOS 14, App Clips, watchOS 7, tvOS and macOS 11.0.

iOS and iPadOS

With iOs 14 and iPadOS 14, it will be possible to automatically organize all apps into a one simple to navigate view. Siri‌ will have 20x more facts than 3 years ago and is expanding translation to support a number of new language pairs, and ‌ full translation across languages. Apple clarified its Privacy principles, which include Data minimization, On-device intelligence, Security protections, and Transparency and control

Memoji updates, with 20 new hair and headwear styles, more face coverings and more age options.

With iPadOS 14, the redesigned widgets from ‌iOS 14‌ are coming to ‌iPad‌. Handwriting on the ‌iPad‌ will be just as powerful as typed text.

WatchOS

watchOS 7 apps will be able to have multiple capabilities: WYSIWYG watch face setup, Face Sharing with curated faces from App Store, a website, or to receive watch faces from friends and family. Activity app is being renamed Fitness and the watchOS 7 will support Sleep Tracking!

Apple TV

Apple TV‌ will have multi-user support for Apple Arcade and will support Xbox Elite 2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers, along with Picture-in-picture. Apple TV‌+ Coming to Sony and Vizio smart TVs later this summer and Isaac Asimov's Foundation coming to ‌Apple TV‌+.

macOS


macOS Big Sur is qualified as the biggest change since the introduction of macOS X. It has a new design inspired by iOS.

Among the capabilities are: Maps update, Favorites, Guides, indoor maps, Look around, ETA of friends and their current locations, plus all the other features included in Maps for ‌iOS 14‌, menu and keyboard APIs, date pickers, new Maps and ‌Messages‌ apps, and more.

It includes the biggest update to Safari since it was first introduced, with page load performance on average more than 50% faster than Chrome, and industry-leading battery life.

Big announcement: Apple transition to "Apple Silicon" for Mac.


Perhaps the most fundamental change is the transitioning of Mac from Intel to Apple's own Apple silicon, with a family of Mac SoCs designed specifically for Macs, with unique features and performance and a common architecture across all product lines.

In fact, macOS 11.0 is the start of Apple's transition to "Apple Silicon" for Mac. .

To expedite a smooth transition, Apple is launching a Quick Start program, to help developers make their Apple Silicon based apps universal. The Developer Transition Kit hardware includes a Mac mini with an A12Z SoC, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD, and the ‌macOS Big Sur‌ developer beta. Developers will be able to apply to the program sttarting June 22, 2020, with shipping units starting this week.

Apple mentioned partnering with Microsoft and Adobe to have a working version of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite ready to run on Apple Silicon.
