Denzel Washington & Hidden Figures Win Big at SAG Wards

 Denzel Washington has won the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role on Sunday January 29, 2017. Denzel Washington won for his role in the movie  "Fences", in which he, and actress Viola Davis delivered an breath taking performance. Denzel beat out Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck, Hacksaw Ridge's Andrew Garfield, La La Land's Ryan Gosling and Captain Fantastic's Viggo Mortensen.

Accessing the  award, Denzel Washington said that he did not expect the honor and hence that he did not prepare. He went on to say: "I'm a God-fearing man, I'm supposed to have faith, but I didn't have faith. I'm getting choked up!"

The movie, "Hidden Figures" won the  Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.  Hidden Figures cast beat  out Captain Fantastic, Fences, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight.

 Accepting the award for the cast, Taraji P. Henson,  tear-eyed, said: “This film is about unity. The shoulders of the women that we stand on are there American heroes: Kathryn Johsnon, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson. Without them, we would not know how to reach the stars. These women did not complain about the problems, the issues the circumstances. They focused on solutions ."

Taraji P . Henson also thank the late  Astronaut John Glenn, who played a major role in recognizing the three women being the characters ( see "Black Woman Who Advanced Human Rights and Humanity With A Slide Rule and a Pencil"  and Hidden Figures movie).

"Therefore, these brave women helped put brave men into space. And we cannot forget the men who worked with them: God rest his soul, John Glenn ... This story is about what happens when we put our differences aside, and we come together as a human race. We win. Love wins every time.

 "Hidden Figures," is  biographical drama film based on the non-fiction book of Margot Lee Shetterly.  In the film star Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe as Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, respectively, the black NASA employees who participated in calculating flight trajectories for Project Mercury in 1962.
